Founded in1984, Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited or Virgin Atlantic is a British commercial airline based in Crawley. It was named Europe’s Leading Airline to North America in 2016 World Travel Awards. Its parent company is Virgin Atlantic Limited. The airline operates from Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester Airports.


Virgin Atlantic does not have any airline subsidiary following the cessation of ifs domestic brand Little Red. The airline is also not a member of any airline alliance. Virgin Atlantic flies to over 30 domestic and international destinations.  These destinations include Christchurch, Belfast, Chicago, Dubai, Havana, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, New York, Shanghai, and Washington DC. Virgin Atlantic also has codeshare agreements with many major carriers across the globe including Air China, Air New Zealand, Delta Air Lines, Flybe and Singapore Airlines.

Virgin Atlantic current fleet includes Airbuses A330-300 and A340-600. The fleet also consists of Boeings 747-400 and 787-9 totalling up to 29 aircrafts. The airline is current awaiting its order for Airbuses A350-1000 and A380-800.

Virgin Atlantic offers three cabin configurations on its aircrafts. These are Upper Class or Business, Premium Economy and Economy classes. Personal in-flight entertainment system is available to all passengers across all classes. As most other major airlines, the Business or Upper Class cabin boasts wide seats that can recline to become long beds. Passengers in this class also have access to chauffeur service.

In-flight entertainment comes in the form of personal seatback AVOD featuring latest blockbuster films, TV shows, music and games suitable for all ages. Its in-flight magazine is called Vera and is available to all passengers. Hot meals are available and this varies accordingly on flight durations and your ticket classes.

Virgin Atlantic frequent flyer program is called The Flying Club. Similar to most loyalty programs, passengers collect miles within a calendar year to go up the tier with the higher tiers providing more benefits including seat upgrades, excess baggage allowance, access to lounges and priority check-in and boarding. Miles can be spent with other retail partners worldwide.

Virgin Atlantic offers fairly standard baggage allowance compared to other major airlines. Like most airlines, the allowance varies according to ticket classes and flight routes. Economy class passengers are allowed either one or two bags weighing up to 23kg each while Premium Economy passengers are allowed either two or three bags each weighing up to 23kg depending on the routes. Upper Class passengers are allowed three bags each weighing up to 32kg on all routes. Those travelling with infants are allowed additional baggage.
