Founded in 1933, Air France or Société Air France, S.A. formally is the French flag carrier. Its company slogan is France is in the air. It was the winner of the Most Elegant Airline of 2014 by Shanghai Morning Post and was voted best airline of the year in the 3rd edition of TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.


Its parent company is Air France-KLM and the headquarters is located in Tremblay-en-France. The airline operates from its main global hub at Charles De Gaulle Airport. Its secondary hubs include Orly Airport, Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, Marseille Provenance Airport, Toulouse Blagnac Airport, and Nice Côte d’Azur Airport.

Air France has several airline subsidiaries including HOP! and Transavia France. It also has another subsidiary in the form of Servair which is an airline catering company. Together with its subsidiaries, Air France flies to over 200 domestic and international destinations across 93 countries.

Air France is one of the founding member of SkyTeam airline alliance formed in 2000. It has codeshare agreements with well over 50 other carriers across the globe including KLM, Garuda Indonesia, Etihad Airways, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.

Air France current fleet includes Airbuses A318-100, A319-100, A320-200, A321-100, A321-200, A330-200, A340-300, A350-900, and A380-800. The fleet also consists of Boeings 777-200ER, 777-300ER, and 787-9 totalling to around 230 aircrafts. Air France no longer flies its Concorde due to insufficient demands and high cost and only one now remains in Charles De Gaulle Airport.

Air France offers three cabin configurations for its European short-haul and medium-haul flights. These are Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes. For its international long-haul routes, Air France offers the additional La Première class on select aircraft. The La Première cabin offers 10.4” touchscreen personal screen, wood and leather seats that recline to form two-metre long beds, auto-massage feature, pure merino wool blanket, and À la carte on-demand meal services with entrées created by a Michelin-starred chef. The Business class features cabins with 1-2-1 layout, 10.4” touchscreen monitor, three-course meals and a cheese service.

Air France offers high quality in-flight services. Its in-flight entertainment called Audio Video on Demand (AVOD) is available on all long-haul aircrafts and features selections of films and music from around the world. In-flight magazines can be found in all cabin configurations. In-flight wi-fi is currently being tested on some aircrafts to enable passengers to stay connected while on air. Three-course meals are provided on long-haul and medium-haul flights and snacks are available on short-haul ones. Complimentary champagne are provided to passengers in all classes.

Air France frequent flyer program is called Flying Blue. Membership is free and members begin at the basic Ivory level before moving on to Silver, Gold and Platinum as they continue collecting miles within a calendar year.

On the ground, Air France lounges or Le Salon are available for passengers holding La Première, Business and Premium Economy tickets. It is also available to Flying Blue Gold, Flying Blue Platinum, SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members. The lounge offers free wi-fi, shower facilities, buffet and beverages.

Air France baggage allowance varies according to ticket classes, flight routes and Flying blue membership status. On its booking website, customers can easily find out their allowance by using the baggage calculator function to determine how much they can bring. Additional allowance can be bought if needed and customers can use their Flying Blue miles to pay for the excess.
