Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey. Its company slogan is widen your world. Founded in 1933, the airline is owned by the Government of Turkey with its headquarters located in Istanbul. The airline has been named Best Airline in Europe in 2016 Skytrax World Airlines Awards.
The main operational hub is located at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Its secondary hubs include Esenboga International Airport, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, and Adnan Menderes Airport.
Turkish Airlines subsidiaries include Anadolujet, Sun Express and Turkish Technic. It is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance since 2008. The airline flies to over 260 domestic and international destinations in 117 countries which is more than any other airlines! These destinations include Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Baku, Beirut, Colombo, Doha, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Los Angeles, Malaga, Nice, Rome, Singapore, and Taipei. Turkish Airlines also has codeshare agreements with many major carriers across the globe including Adria Airways, Air Astana, Air China, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, JetBlue, Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines.
Turkish Airlines current fleet includes Airbuses A319-100, A320-200, A321-200, A321neo, A330-200, A330-300, and A340-300. The fleet also consists of Boeings 737-700, 737-800, 737-900ER, 737 MAX 8, 737 MAX 9, and 777-300ER totalling to over 330 aircrafts!
Turkish Airlines offers two cabin configurations namely, Business and Economy classes. Business class passengers can enjoy wide ottoman seats that recline into a long bed with massage function, delicious cuisine with selection of hors d’oeuvres from a cart, a soup service and access to Turkish Airlines lounge on the ground. Economy class passengers will have to settle for the standard seats equipped with personal TV screen, power outlets for charging gadgets and meals and beverages according to flight durations. Access to the lounge is available for Miles&Smiles members of higher tiers.
Turkish Airlines in-seat AVOD service is called Planet and it is filled with movies, TV shows, musics and games to keep adults and children entertained throughout long-haul flights. It also has an in-flight communication system that allows passengers to send text or email at a small fee. Hot meals are provided and this varies depending on flight durations. All meals are guaranteed halal and passengers with special dietary restrictions can specify their needs when purchasing tickets or during online check-in.
Turkish Airlines frequent flyer program is called Miles&Smiles. Similar to most loyalty programs, passengers collect miles within a calendar year to go up the tier with the higher tiers providing more benefits including seat upgrades, excess baggage allowance and priority check-in and boarding. Higher tier members are also entitled to the same benefits provided to Star Alliance card members. Miles can be used on Turkish Airlines flights and those operated by the Star Alliance network.
Turkish Airlines is not known to have very generous baggage allowance. Like most airlines, the allowance varies according to ticket classes and flight routes. For domestic flights, Economy class passengers can carry one bag weighing up to 20kg while Business class passengers are allowed up to 30kg. For international flights, Economy class passengers are allowed two bags each weighing up to 23kg while Business class passengers are allowed two bags each weighing up to 32kg. Those travelling with infants are allowed additional baggage.
