About Qatar Airways
Founded in 1993, Qatar Airways or Al Qatariyah is state-owned flag carrier of Qatar. Its company slogan is Going Places Together. It was the winner of World’s Best Business Class category in 2016 Skytrax Awards and voted Airline of the Year in the same award in 2015.
Its parent company is the Government of Qatar and the headquarters is located in Doha. The airline operates from its main global hub at Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways has several subsidiaries including Al Maha Airways, Qatar Airways Holidays, Qatar Aviation Services and The Qatar Aircraft Catering Company. Together with its subsidiaries, Qatar Airways flies to around 151 domestic and international destinations around the world.
Qatar Airways is a member of Oneworld airline alliance when it joined the alliance in 2012. It has codeshare agreements with around 20 other carriers across the globe including British Airways, Malaysian Airlines, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines.
Qatar Airways current fleet includes Airbuses, A319-100LR, A320-200, A320neo, A321-200, A321neo, A330-200, A330-300, A340-600, A350-900, A350-1000 and A380-800. The fleet also consists of Boeings 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 777-8, 777-9, 787-8 and 787-9 totalling to around 190 aircrafts.
Qatar Airways offers three cabin configurations for most of its flights. The First class boasts seats that fold into flat beds with feather duvets. The seats come with massage functions apart from 6.5 feet legroom. The cabin is configured in 1-2-1 layout with 26-inch TV screens.
The Business Class is equally luxurious with 2-2-2 layout with reclining seats and massage functions. The Economy class cabin has 3-3-3 layout with 10.6 inch personal TV screen. The configurations may vary depending on the aircrafts as the airline continues to introduce new updates and improvements.
Qatar Airways offers high quality in-flight services. Its in-flight entertainment called Oryx One features selections of blockbuster films and latest music from around the world. The airline also provides OnAir GSM/WiFi service onboard to enable passengers to stay connected. Three-course meals are provided and customers can request for special meals according to their dietary requirements. This can be done online at least 24 hours before the departure. All meals served are guaranteed halal.
Qatar Airways frequent flyer program is called Qatar Airways Privilege Club or Qmiles. This program has reciprocal agreements with other frequent flyer programs including those of Asiana Airlines and East Airlines. Memberships benefits include priority check-in, excess baggage allowance, priority boarding and lounge access.
On the ground, Qatar Airways operates four exclusive lounges around the world. These are Al Safwa First Class Lounge, Al Mourjan Business Lounge, London Heathrow Premium Lounge and DBX Qatar Airways Premium Lounge. These lounges are exclusive for passengers holding First and Business class tickets and higher tier privilege club members. The same customers can also use other lounges in other airports worldwide.
Qatar Airways baggage allowance varies according to ticket classes and flight routes. It must be noted that the allowance remains very generous even for Economy class passengers with at least 30kg on majority of the international routes. Some routes will even allow baggage up to 46kg for passengers in Economy class and 65kg for those in First and Business classes.
