Ethiopian Airlines is owned by the Ethiopian  Government. The headquarters is located in Addis Ababa. The main operational hub for the airline is the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Ethiopian Airlines does not have any subsidiary companies. Despite this, the airlines serves over 100 passenger destinations around the world  including Vienna, Brussels, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, Beijing, Cairo, Paris, Berlin, Athens, Delhi, Tel Aviv, Milan, Mombasa, Luxembourg, Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam, Oslo, Manila and many others.

Ethiopian Airlines joined Star Alliance airline alliance in December 2011. It has codeshare agreements with well over 20 other carriers across the globe including Air Canada, Air India, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.

Ethiopian Airlines current fleet includes Boeings 737-300, 737-800, 737 MAX 8, 767-300ER, 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 787-8, and 787-9. The fleet also consists of Airbus 350-900 and Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 totalling to 82 aircrafts.

Ethiopian Airlines offers two cabin configurations for all its aircrafts except the all-economy-layout Dash 8s. These are Business and Economy classes. The Business class, or Cloud Nine, offers sleeper seats, onboard amenities, meals on demand, and 85-channel AVOD services on 15.4 inch screens. The Economy class features reclining seats, 89-channel AVOD services on 8.9 inch screen and either snacks or hot dishes depending on flight duration. Additional alcoholic beverages can be acquired at an extra cost.

Ethiopian Airlines frequent flyer program is called ShebaMiles. Similar to other loyalty programs, members get to collect miles as they travel within a calendar year. Miles can be used for upgrades and benefits include excess baggage allowance, priority check-in and boarding and access to lounges. Miles can also be earned on other airlines, hotels and restaurants partners worldwide.

On the ground, Ethiopian Airlines passengers have two lounges to choose from at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Business class passengers can use the Cloud Nine lounge while ShebaMiles members with Gold or Silver statuses can access the ShebaMiles lounge. The lounges offer standard airport comforts like wireless connection and refreshments.

Ethiopian Airline baggage allowance varies according to ticket classes, flight routes and ShebaMiles membership status. For international routes, passengers on Economy class can either bring two bags each weighing 23kg or a maximum of 40kg depending on their destinations. Business class passengers can bring either three bags each weighing 23kg or two bags each weighing 32kg depending on their destinations. Economy class passengers on domestic routes can bring baggage to a maximum of 20kg while those on Business class can bring baggage to a maximum of 30kg.
